Montague Street Bridge hit by truck in South Melbourne, delaying traffic


In a clear sign that Melbourne traffic is getting back to normal, a truck has become wedged under the notorious Montague Street Bridge.

The furniture truck struck the bridge in South Melbourne just before 8am on Tuesday.

Police are directing traffic and the right lanes are closed northbound in the area.

“Make sure you know the height of your truck before you travel,” VicTraffic tweeted.

It has been more than 100 days since a truck has hit the notorious bridge.

After the news broke of the bridge strike, Twitter was alight.

“In Melbourne, we know things are back to normal when someone gets stuck under the Montague St bridge,” one person said.

Another said: “Lockdown is officially over. News just now reported a truck has hit the Montague street bridge.”
