Massive crash takes out half the field in women’s omnium.

New Zealand rider Holly Edmonston managed to avoid the carnage as a massive crash wiped out almost half the field in the opening race of the women’s omnium on Saturday.

Defending champion Laura Kenny of Great Britain was one of nine riders that fell heavily in the crash, which occurred at the end of the penultimate lap as riders jostled for position in the scratch race.
